Project Description
In order to better serve commuters of the Metra Crystal Lake Station, KMI designed a new passenger shelter. This unique design is a combination of exposed structural steel, glass and masonry. Four of these structures were to be erected along the inbound platform offering passengers relief from the natural elements. To provide comfort for passengers, while preserving the aesthetic quality of the exposed structure, careful detailing of features such as concealed electrical system, infrared overhead heating and high visibility windscreens were incorporated into the design. Architectural, structural, electrical and civil engineering disciplines were involved in the design.
